Boys' Writing

If you ask teachers what is their choice of most difficult area for improvement, they are quite likely to say ‘Boys’ writing’; and with good reason.

Across the country and across gender and ethnic boundaries, writing lags behind pupils’ skills in reading and in oral communication.

As a writer and as a teacher, Pauline is convinced that, all too often, pupils are faced with writing tasks to which they have not accorded sufficient thoughtful preparation, and which they are expected to accomplish alone.

Pauline’s workshops enable groups of pupils in a collaborative and supportive way, to think through texts and to begin to produce writing of which they can be proud. She can cover both fiction creation and research skills for non-fiction writing, and uses drama as a key tool.

Did you know...

...that many little boys of 6 find writing physically painful?
